Each bar is one community. Larger and denser areas have more homes, so a higher count does not mean each household is at higher risk. Hover or tap to read the numbers.
What is counted
These figures count break-ins at homes only. Business break-ins are left out, so areas with many shops and offices are not inflated. The data does not say whether each home was a house or an apartment.

Ranked by 2025 count. These are counts, not rates: larger and denser areas have more homes, so a higher count does not mean each household is at higher risk.
What to do about it
Whether you own or rent, the basics are the same: see who is at your door, cover the back and sides, and make the home look occupied.
- Start with the door. A video doorbell shows who is there and records visitors and deliveries.
- Cover the other entrances. A battery or solar camera can watch a back door, garage or yard without new wiring.
- Check the rules if you rent. Read your lease or building rules before mounting anything.

A camera doesn't stop a break-in by itself. It lets you see what is happening and keeps a recording.

What the totals don't show
We dug further into the data. Only 1 in 6 Canadian break-ins leads to a charge, about half of home burglaries need no force, and Friday is the peak day in Toronto, Chicago and New York.
About this data
Source. dataMontgomery, Crime, published by the Montgomery County Police Department.
What is counted. Counts are reported crimes classified as burglary at a residence, by the date they started. Business burglaries are not included. Areas are the postal community names recorded with each incident, such as Silver Spring or Rockville, and a large one like Silver Spring covers many neighbourhoods. The data is updated regularly and can be revised.
How to read it. These figures cover crimes reported to police, not every crime that happens. Rankings, medians and changes are our own calculations from the published data, and a change from one year to the next can reflect reporting practices as well as real trends. MkaeSense is not affiliated with the data publisher, and this is general information, not a prediction for any home or street.
