Many popular security cameras are sold at a fair price, then ask for a monthly plan to unlock recorded video. This guide adds up what Ring's Canadian plans cost over five years, so you can compare it with cameras that record to a card you own.
What Ring charges in Canada
These are the Canadian list prices on ring.com/ca, checked in October 2026, before tax:
- Ring Solo: $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year, for one device.
- Ring Multi: $14.99 a month or $149.99 a year, for all Ring devices at one address.
Five-year totals
- Solo, billed monthly: $5.99 × 60 months = $359.40
- Solo, billed yearly: $59.99 × 5 years = $299.95
- Multi, billed monthly: $14.99 × 60 months = $899.40
- Multi, billed yearly: $149.99 × 5 years = $749.95
That is plan fees only. The cameras themselves are extra, and prices can change, so check Ring's site for current figures.
What a no-subscription camera costs instead
Every camera we sell records to a microSD card you own, so there is no camera plan. A card is a one-time purchase, and it can be replaced or upgraded whenever you like. The one exception to "no ongoing cost" is 4G cameras: they use a mobile network, so you pay your own carrier for a data SIM, just like a phone. That is paid to your carrier, not to us.
The honest trade-offs
- Remote access: with local storage, you can view live and get alerts, but footage lives on the card. If someone steals the camera, they can steal the card too.
- Convenience: a cloud plan means you never think about storage. With a card, you check it occasionally.
- Monitoring: neither Ring's basic plans nor a no-fee system include a professional monitoring centre calling the police for you. Check what your plan includes.
