About Trail Cameras

Trail cameras capture activity for wildlife observation and property monitoring. Choose how you want to retrieve recordings before comparing resolution, night vision and power.

Local recording or remote access?

SD-card trail cameras suit recordings collected later. Wi-Fi models have model-specific connection limits; Wi-Fi does not automatically mean access from anywhere. 4G trail cameras require compatible coverage and an active data plan.

Read our shipping information and return conditions. Ask us about compatibility before ordering if you are unsure.

How to choose a trail camera

Start with how you want to get your footage. An SD-card camera is the simplest: you walk out and swap the card. A Wi-Fi model only connects when you're close, usually within range of a house or shop. A 4G cellular camera sends photos and video to your phone from almost anywhere with mobile coverage, but needs a data SIM and plan from your carrier.

What to compare

  • Trigger speed and detection range. A faster trigger means fewer empty frames when something walks past quickly.
  • Night flash. Low-glow infrared shows a faint red glow and usually lights further. No-glow is invisible to people and animals but often has a shorter range.
  • Power in the cold. Lithium AA batteries hold up much better than alkaline below freezing, which matters through a Canadian winter. A small solar panel can keep a 4G camera topped up.
  • Memory card. Use the card size and speed class the camera lists. A card that's too slow can cause missed or corrupted clips.

Common questions

Do trail cameras need Wi-Fi?

No. SD-card models work anywhere with no connection at all. Only Wi-Fi and 4G models connect, and you choose them when you want to check footage without walking to the camera.

Can I use a trail camera for property security?

Yes. They're popular for cottages, gates and back lots because they run for long periods on batteries. For live alerts, choose a 4G model.

Are trail cameras allowed for hunting?

Rules differ by province and state, and a few places restrict cellular cameras during hunting season. Check your local regulations before you set one up for hunting.
